TIMOTHY KITUI FOUNDATION

Timothy kitui foundation’s missions target the populations that reside along the Uganda-Kenyan border (see google map). These populations are the victims of cattle rustling and cross border conflicts despite a series of peace initiatives. The Nexus between Cattle Rustling and Peace Initiatives between the Turkana of Kenya and Karamojong of Uganda. The targeted area includes all the three districts of Karamoja in Uganda, namely Kotido, Moroto and Nakapiripirit, but are confined to four outlying sub-counties of Dodoth, Jie, Matheniko and Pokot on the border points of Kenya and Uganda. These are the most hit regions in the target area. In Turkana, Kenya, the foundations activities cover two divisions of the County, namely Lapur and Lomelo. Of these two Kenyan divisions, Lapur experiences conflicts of a cross-border nature, and Lomelo experiences intra-country conflict along the boundaries with the Pokot areas of Kenya. Ruto P. et al 2013.

This initiatives were born from Timothy Kitui’s strange discovery during the study that made it apparent that, no peace initiatives as presently structured contributes to the termination and eventual eradication of cross border raids. This means that all the stakeholders in the peace process rely on the perpetuation of conflict to preserve their jobs, hence remain relevant within the community. Abandoning data collection during research and embarking on humanitarian assistance, led to the birth of this foundation. Women and children maimed in broad daylight, families going without food and shelter, no access to basic medication, no alternative source of livelihood defined the scenario
